Krazy Karaoke and Mushroom Wellington!

Posted on 14 March 2011

Krazy Karaoke this year was 15th March, at Burscough Legion. Again we were treated to a fantastic bring and share supper, and some memorable performances, including a few suprising people joining us on stage for Dirty Old Town! As we had Sing for Victory last year rather than a Charity of the Year there was no cheque to present, but we still had a brilliant evening- it was great fun!

15th March was the Krazy Karaoke! this time in aid of Comic Relief. Held at Scarisbrick Village Hall the event featured several memorable performances and we presented a cheque for £1100 to our charity of the year for the previous year, the Birchwood Centre.

Then the 16th March saw a repeat of the Krazy Karaoke! evening, this time, with full lighting rig and monitors on the stage- a real ‘stars in their eyes’ set up. Our old friends from West Lancs Positive Living joined us again, and we welcomed a group from our new Charity of the Year, the Birchwood Centre in Skelmersdale. Just when we thought last time couldn’t be topped, we were treated to a stunning rendition of ‘Wuthering Heights’, complete with mortified son attached to leg. Truly an extraordinary sight. We were also very pleased to be able to use the evening to give West Lancs Positive Living a cheque for a phenomenal £1100.

What a fantastic night our first joint event with West Lancs Positive Living was!

Taking place in the brand spanking sparkly and new Scarisbrick Village Hall, the evening started slowly as we missed a couple of our crucial sound guys to help us set up the gear. Fortunately the bar was open, so we all had plenty of time to get a few drinks in and have a chat to everyone we’d not met before. Half an hour in, and we kicked off the night in style with a fearless Thomas singing solo! After that the offers came pouring in and we had an endless supply of superb singers to entertain us!

This is the first time the choir have attempted any sort of ‘bring and share’ supper, and we were amazed and delighted by the amount of food that arrived! It certainly resolves the question about whether we should cater for ourselves rather than hire in caterers in future! Among the many delicious items on the buffet table was a spectacular Mushroom Wellington, enjoyed by both the herbivores and the carnivores in the group. Rafe has posted the recipe on the Facebook group site for the many people who asked him for it. You can see it, even if you are not a member of Facebook, by clicking here: Mushroom Wellington Recipe

We also took a few photographs of that evening, and again you can see them whether or not you are a member of Facebook by clicking here: Krazy Karaoke Photographs

I’m so pleased with how the evening went, and how great it was to be socialising with each other, and I am really looking forward to seeing what the future will bring to these two wonderful groups.

*Update… Edward McCarthy from West Lancs Positive Living has written up the evening from their point of view. You can see his report and some of the pictures here- Edward’s Report Thanks, Edward!!
