ReSound Secure ‘Awards for All’ Grant

Posted on 12 January 2016 | Comments Off on ReSound Secure ‘Awards for All’ Grant

ReSound Community Choir are delighted to announce the launch of their Summer Concert season, The Road to Rio, supported by an award from National Lottery small grants scheme Awards for All.

The award will enable the choir to broaden their already successful summer ‘June Tunes’ programme, allowing them to stage a series of events focusing on different parts of the community; from a matinee concert for several care homes, to a barbeque for families and the local community.

The choir was formed almost a decade ago to provide an opportunity for the community to meet and sing together. A registered charity, the choir is a broad mix of people, from professional musicians to people who just enjoy singing as a hobby, and contains a wide range of ages- young and older voices. As well as providing additional equipment and uniform, the grant will enable them to develop their music skills and experience in singing for older people, especially those with forms of dementia.

ReSound are grateful to Awards for All for their support, and are looking forward to greeting old and new friends in their audiences this year.

ReSound on BBC Radio Lancashire

The BBC Performing Arts Fund is a charity committed to developing new performing arts talent from across the UK. Since its inception in 2003 the Fund has awarded over £4m to aspiring musicians and talented performing arts individuals and community groups.
Over £250,000 has been awarded to 47 not-for-profit community groups via the scheme to develop talent, encourage new members, produce workshops & projects that bring them closer with their communities, and raise their profile.
Our grant is one of seven in the North West; congratulations also to the other North West recipients, Cumbria Community Gamelan, Carlisle, Fireflies Choir- Ellesmere Port, Pagoda Chinese Youth Orchestra- Liverpool, RNCM Youth Perform- Manchester, Rock It! Collective- Bolton, Sat’dy Allsorts- Manchester, and the other national organisations who were successful.
The £4,650 we’ve been awarded will enable us to extend the A-May-Sing programme by staging a large performance at the Civic Hall, featuring music from war time and inviting participants and audience members from local care homes and homes for the elderly. We’ll also be able to put in place a training programme for members of the choir prior to the event.
We’re very excited and grateful to the BBC for supporting us in this way!

Bandstand Marathon a ReSounding Success in Coronation Park Ormskirk!

Posted on 20 October 2012 | Comments Off on Bandstand Marathon a ReSounding Success in Coronation Park Ormskirk!

Coronation Park was buzzing with music on Sunday 9th September, as ReSound Community Choir hosted an afternoon of free entertainment to celebrate the last day of the 2012 Paralympic Games. The event was opened by the Mayor, accompanied by the Mayoress and their children. ReSound Community Choir then launched in to “Oh Happy Day” and “Dancing in the Street” which is what the Town Crier was seen to be doing as he enjoyed the atmosphere, along with the audience who were sitting soaking up the end of summer sun and relishing their picnics.

Mersey duo The Rag Tag Misfits sang a mix of well known songs as well as some of their own, then the crowd enjoyed the acoustic sounds of Cameron Cockbain, accompanying himself on guitar. James Fraser, a talented 16 year old saxophonist did a marvellous job of entertaining the crowd. Audience participation was also encouraged, with “Sweet Caroline”, “Bye Bye Love” and “Dance the Night Away”. The choir ended the wonderful afternoon singing songs from the South Seas, including a close harmony rendition of “Old Cape Cod”. The Young Voice choir members joined in the theme with “Happy Talk”.

Event Programmer for the Ormskirk Bandstand Marathon, Cecilia Cook, said “It’s been a wonderful afternoon of musical entertainment, just to look at people’s faces is enough to know that all the hard work in organising the event was worth it, everyone looked happy to be there, and the weather was a bonus. Thanks go to Sarah Monteith, musical director and conductor of ReSound Community Choir; the team of musicians; Karl and Rafe for the great job they did with the sound; Dave Galt the fantastic compere of the afternoon’s entertainment; park ranger Jessica Britch for all her help setting up; Morrison’s for the donation of bottled water to keep everyone hydrated and, of course, the choir members and other musicians for giving their time to such a great event for Ormskirk.”

On the 5th October, the choir were delighted to travel to Blundell Sands to perform for the Bootle Soroptimists who were raising money for their Chair’s Charity, Sefton Talking Newspapers. The choir performed a mix of the A-May-Sing and Sunshine sets to a lovely group in Blundell Sands United Reformed Church, and everyone had a wonderful evening. With the ticket sales and the raffle, a fantastic £299 was raised for the charity.

Stroke Association

On the 18th July, after months of planning with Emma from the Stroke Association we held ‘An Evening of Music’ at the very grand Ormskirk Civic Hall to raise money for the Stroke Association. Singing our A-May-Sing set, the event was a fantastic success, the audience loved all the music, and an incredible £691.99 went to the Stroke Association. This was a wonderful way to round off A-May-Sing, taking us to our summer break.
